New investment For PCD Tooling

Clare Hollister

PCD Tooling Solutions have had a busy December and January.

In December they were awarded ISO9001. This is something they’ve have been working toward so as to improve their efficiency and the traceability of all their customers tools that they service and manufacture. They have also been introducing a computerised tracking system so any employee from any terminal can trace customer’s tools to see at what stage of production they are. This allows greater co-operation and communication between staff in a very reliable, transparent way so any issue is resolved instantly.

They have also installed a brand new CNC saw grinding machine for the service of TCT saw blades up to 800 mm diameter. They noticed that there is still a large market using TCT as well as PCD so this allows them to cover more ground in terms of service capabilities, as now they can service both TCT and PCD.

Their biggest investment in this time though, and the one they are the proudest of, is their new DIAREX LASER EROSION MACHINE.

With their existing three Vollmer QM disc erosion machines plus QXD disc erosion with body relief and polishing and our QWD wire technology all of which produce the best available erosion quality, the next obvious step was laser to offer a total repair, refurbish and sharpening service for all diamond machine tools.

Paul Falkingham, company founder, explains: “The initial laser results have been fantastic with its speed, accuracy and quality of finish it is definitely the next level of quality for us to offer our customers. It also has the range of capabilities to offer our tools and services into other markets that require exceptional precision and complex profiles and geometries.”

The Diarex laser is much more efficient and therefore reduces run times and energy costs, and its tool station with robotic loading enables lights out running whenever required. All existing customers profile erosion files that are on their management system can be automatically down loaded to ensure complete repeatability and an improved precision cutting edge quality.  This can be verified by the inspection quality of Zoller and the balancing technology of Haimer to ensure every tool is of the highest accuracy and quality.

Ben Falkingham elaborates: “We are confident that PCD Tooling Solutions can now offer customers from different industries the highest quality of service. Whereas previously we were limited by the amount of machines we had, we can now cover tools whether they are saw blades in TCT and PCD, straight router cutters, milling heads, small and large profiles all at once. We can now be called the complete service centre.”

PCD Tooling can offer new diamond tools from an extensive range of routers, edge bander milling cutters and saw blades, ex stock. They have the ability to manufacture special tooling and PCD saw blades with any tooth form, number of teeth, virtually any geometry to cut any material, on any diameters up to 600mm.

To a small company like PCD Tooling, it is a big leap of faith but they have never been shy when it comes to investment in technology and are constantly looking to improve their service. They believe the door is now open for many new markets. There is a vast variety of materials out there and they all have to be cut at some stage. Having always had the best results available from their range of machines, their commitment to investment into the greatest quality in machinery will continue to fulfil the dream of a quality as close to perfection as possible.

Paul said: “We are confident this is our next step on our journey to growing as a company and providing a valuable service to many new potential customers, as well as continuing to provide excellent service to our existing customers. Our investment into new technologies gives us more versatility and adds another string to our bow”.
